McHenry County features prominently in IMA/IMEC manufacturing tour

McHenry County has a lot going for it when it comes to manufacturing – and two of Illinois’ premier agencies dedicated to fostering it have taken notice.

October is Manufacturing Month in Illinois, and the Illinois Manufacturing Association and the Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center are celebrating by partnering up to conduct a statewide Makers on the Move bus tour. And it’s coming to McHenry County on October 10 for not one, not two, but three stops!

The tour will start with a news conference at the Michael J. Sullivan Judicial Center in Woodstock, followed by a tour of AFC Materials Group in Lake in the Hills, and a celebration and social at Sew Hop’d Brewery in Huntley.

County holds expo to promote local government cooperation

Local governments from across McHenry County and the collar counties came to Lou Malnati’s in Lakewood to share best practices for improving efficiencies and services.

McHenry County Government hosted its inaugural Municipal Partnering Initiative Expo last week. More than 50 guests, representing 20 different government and private agencies, attended with the goal of educating and fostering further cooperation that could lead to saving money through streamlining operations, joint procurement of goods and services, and other efficiencies.

Next Talk and Tour presentation offers Salt Smart training/certification

The final installment of the county’s Talk and Tour best management practices series will offer training and Salt Smart certification for winter management professionals.

The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, at Ringers Landscaping, 2101 Route 176, Crystal Lake. The Salt Smart training and certification program (click here to learn more about it) teaches people how to employ proven practices to adequately treat parking lots and sidewalks in winter while reducing salt pollution and saving money.

McHenry expo tomorrow introduces students to manufacturing careers

We can think of few better ways to commemorate Manufacturing Month than introducing the next generation of workers to the opportunities and promise of manufacturing careers.

The annual Manufacturing, Trade and Industry Career Expo takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the McHenry High School Center for Science, Technology and Industry, 4724 W. Crystal Lake Road. The expo gives young people and their parents a chance to meet local industry representatives and learn about career paths, and educational opportunities, for youth interested in pursuing manufacturing careers.

Mark your calendar for county/R1 Planning open house

As a reminder, McHenry County and the Region 1 Planning Council are hosting an open house October 10 to collect feedback to shape future investment in jobs, transportation and sustainability in McHenry County.

The open house will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the McHenry County Mental Health Board, 620 Dakota St., Crystal Lake.

Topics to be discussed will also include neighborhoods, infrastructure, economic development, energy, natural resources, and health and equity.

The feedback gathered will be used to help shape various planning documents, including the R1’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy.

Settlers Days returns to Marengo for 53rd year

Marengo Settlers Days returns this weekend for its 53rd year!

The four-day annual festival starts this Thursday, October 5, and runs through Sunday, October 8.

Events include a carnival, a 5K fun run, an arts and crafts fair, a car show, pet parade, live music, and of course, the big Settlers Days Parade and marching band field show on Sunday.
